Commercial Glass Washer Buying Guide

by Brian C. on March 24, 2010

Buying a commercial glass washer can be a difficult choice to make, since there are so many different makes and models on the market today. The first step is to factor in your budget, since the price range can vary greatly depending on the size and features included. Once you have done this, question yourself about the purpose of the washer. Will it be used in the kitchen area or the front bar? How many glasses will my business need to clean per hour? There are specific models that are designed for each purpose. Finally, start to consider which of the additional features you really need.

All commercial dishwashers work on the principle of heating up the internal temperature so that it is such that it sanitises the glasses. Regulations state that the temperature must reach 180ºF for this to take place. So no matter what the make, you can be sure that the glasses will be fully cleaned.
The capacity of a glass washer is something to consider. Washers are rated at the number of full racks they can clean per hour. A good value to look for is at least 22 racks, which would mean at least 350 glasses, more or less, depending on the size. If you are a big operation, look closely at this number before buying.
Additional features that are increasingly seen today include cold rinse cycles and cutlery trays. A cold rinse cycle prevents the glasses leaving the glass washer from coming out still warm – a great solution for when a bar is so busy that there is a real chance that glasses don’t have enough time to cool properly before being reused.

Different sizes are available, and there are specific types for bars. Glass washers for bars are typically smaller, but they look a little bit fancier since they are often customer facing.

Commercial and industrial glass washers are essential when you are running a business catering to the pub or restaurant industry. They free up a lot of time that lets staff do other important tasks, such as attending to customers. Fully research your needs before buying a glass washer, and you can’t go wrong with your decision.
