A pub glass washer only has a few moving parts, and luckily they are all easy to replace. Aside from the electric motor, when you think about it the only parts that really move are the brushes, the gears at the bottom of the washer, and also the bushing. Thankfully, bar glass washers are very robust, and the parts do not need replacing all that often. However, if you experience any problems with your glass washer it may be time to inspect the individual parts for wear and tear. Here are the parts that you can get:
” Brushes – if you have an upright glass washer (the type that sits in the sink and has 3 to 5 rotating brushes that you place a glass in) then the brushes will inevitably wear out at some point. Luckily, replacements are easily obtained. Most replacement brushes will fit just about any glass washer, however if you have a Bar Maid model then you will need a specific type (a Bar Maid glass washer brush has a small notch that sticks out at the bottom). Brushes are normally 7 inches in size, although the occasional model will take a 6 inch brush – it is best to check the manual or manufacturers website before purchasing.
” Gear – The gears rotate the brushes, and they are power by the washer’s electric motor. They are probably the first parts that will wear out, so inspect them regularly. You can tell when the glass washer gears are worn out if the brushes seem to slow down when clean the glass. Replacement gears are specific to each model, so it’s another case of looking online or calling the manufacturer.
” Bushing – If you are continually replacing gears but can’t understand why then the bushings are probably worn. Feel the texture of the bushings with the glasswasher turned off – if they are rough to touch then it’s time to buy new ones.
A glass washer machine is a very reliable and tough little machine, but like any of piece of machinery that has moving parts, it requires some occasional maintenance. The best place to find hard to get parts is probably online at auction sites, or through your favourite search engine. You can source parts for just about any make and model online, so there is normally no reason to throw out your faulty glass washer – replace the parts instead!
